Improve Driver Safety – Use A Handsfree Bluetooth Kit

Just about everybody has a mobile phone (Cellphone) i think a statistic shows that over 250 million people own a mobile in America alone. In England that figure is close to 100 million phones sold. Our dependence on them is now more obvious than ever! we live in an environment where we need to be contactable 24/7, and feel exposed if we are not.

However this reliance on mobile phones is leading to a willingness to use mobiles in dangerous situations, even when we know we shouldn’t. For example using the mobile whilst driving is becoming more and more common leading to an increased number of serious accidents. There are two main reasons why using the phone whilst driving is a serious hazard, firstly operating the mobile whilst driving involves looking away from the road and physically removing your hand from the steering wheel whether to answer or dial a number. Secondly people can become absorbed in the conversation or texting and not pay attention to the road.

Although we are aware its socially unacceptable to phone and text while we drive we are often overcome with desire to do so, often believing that any negative effects of doing so can be compensated for by driving skill and experience, as a growing number of people are finding out this is not the case. Evidence in several recent studies in the UK shows that the effects of using the mobile whilst driving are very similar to those of a drink driver. Concentration levels are severely reduced when reaching for the phone or dialling a number and reduced further when texting. This obviously reduces our reaction times significantly leaving us far less time to react than if we were driving normally, which is the actual cause of an accident.

Its safe to say that using you mobile phone whilst driving is now considered dangerous at the least. Not only for you and your passengers but other vehicles on the road too. Police forces often enforce this with fixed penalty’s and points in an aid to reduce this growing trend. There are many new initiatives set up to allow the use of mobile phones whilst driving with the aid of handsfree bluetooth car kits.

Advanced bluetooth car kits are now available for the majority of vehicles that allow you to fully navigate through your phone via voice commands, you can access your phonebook, text messages and other features on your phone with out moving your hands from the steering wheel totally eliminating the first problem associated with phone-driving.

Unfortunately the second problem associated with using the phone whilst driving can’t be resolved with any device, When operating a vehicle you should always concentrate to the best of your ability. It only takes a split second to cause an accident and that alone is down to the drivers involved. However the use of a bluetooth car kit can significantly reduce the changes of being involved in an accident, that can only be good for drivers everywhere.

Bluetooth
Car Kits
are an excellent car safety device and recognised
and recommended by many police forces all over the world as a safe way
to communicate whilst driving, Many handsfree bluetooth car kits are now fully integrated and operate through the vehicles speaker system giving clear and precise voice reproduction. You have no excuses to drive and talk safely. visit www.bluetoothcarkitdirect.co.uk />

Tips to Minimize the Dangers of Cellphone Usage

Cellphone usage worldwide numbers in the billions. If there is a possibility of injury from these devices, then a lot of people will be affected.

A cellphone is actually a radio transmitter and receiver. It sends and recieves radio frequency electromagnetic waves. The received signals are fairly low level, so I will concentrate on the signal transmitted from the cellphone.

Cellphones transmit mainly at frequencies of 900, 1800 and 1900 Megahertz (MHz). A microwave oven cooks food using a frequency of 915 MHz or 2450 MHz. In other words, the food is not fussy about what frequency you use, as long as it’s in that range, say 900 to 2500 MHz. Which means, cellphones use Microwave Oven frequencies.

A microwave oven puts out a power of about 1000 watts, on average. If you put your head in a microwave oven, it will take about an hour to cook to a nice sizzling crisp.

A cellphone transmits at a power of about 3 watts, and it self adjusts it’s power continually to compensate for poor signal paths, up to a maximum of 5 to 7 watts. Not much, but there’s a twist…

A microwave oven spreads it’s radiation over the whole oven cavity, so that the food is cooked uniformly.

A cellphone has a tiny, array antenna, measuring maybe 2 or 3 cm in length, and it’s right next to your ear. So 5 watts of power is radiating into your head into an area of perhaps 3cm by 0.75cm. That’s a lot of power when concentrated in such a small area.

The cellphone manufacturers have said that they have put “shields” into their phones to keep radiation risks to a minimum.

If you turn around while making a call, does the call cut out or the audio disappear at any time? No, it doesn’t. Radio waves, like light waves, travel in a straight line. If your head got in between the cellphone and the cell transmitter tower, then the signal should be blocked (shielded) by the shield in the phone, as the waves can’t bend once they’ve left the phone.

Which means that those microwaves are going through your head, all the time.

Whenever you’re “on the phone,” you are being microwaved just like the roast in your microwave oven.

So What Can You Do?

If you’ve got a handsfree kit, use it if it’s practical. Don’t use bluetooth – it also transmits radiowaves close to your head, albeit at different frequencies.

If your phone has a loudspeaker, switch it on and speak at a distance. The guy on the other side will still hear you perfectly.

Buy phones with a low Specific Absorption Rate (SAR)

Don’t let children make long calls. Their soft skuls are much more affected than the hard heads of adults. (See “The Stewart Report.”)

Swop ears every minute or so, to give your head time to “cool down” on that side.

Don’t hold the phone next to your ear while connecting – this is when it transmits at maximum power.

Avoid making calls in weak reception areas, as the cellphone will boost it’s output power to make sure it stays connected.

Keep your conversations short.

Use SMS’s whenever possible.

Avoid sleeping with a cellphone under your pillow. Cellphones transmit even when you are not using them, exchanging data and checking signal strength, at regular intervals.

Avoid carrying the cellphone close to your body. This applies especially to the breast pocket of people with heart problems.

Use a landline whenever possible.

Many people have proven health problems from cellphone usage, brain tumors being the most common, followed by loss of memory, impaired brain function and other symptons. Usually these symptons take a few years to surface.

By taking the simple precautions listed above, we can actually save our lives. Tell your friends too. There’s a lot of people out there that need to know these facts.

You can thank me later!

Bluetooth Stereo Headset Headphones

There are many components that go into making a bluetooth stereo headset, but probably the most important of those (for audiophiles at least) is the headphones.

Audio quality

If you are buying a headset, then you will no doubt take a lot of factors into consideration (e.g. price, comfort, quality and features), but for many people, the most important factor is the audio quality. How good do the headphones actually sound?

It’s an important factor. You would think that the more you pay, the better audio quality you will get. But that’s not necessarily the case. You might be paying through the nose for a load of “bells and whistles” that you don’t actually want on the headset, ending up with a pair of headphones that sound rubbish but cost a bomb!

The latest bluetooth protocol

This doesn’t have to be the case. You may be under the misapprehension that because the audio is being delivered across the bluetooth protocol, the quality will suffer. Let me state categorically here and now that this is not the case! The latest bluetooth specification (3.0, introduced in April 2009) added the AMP 802.11 protocol for high-speed transport, which enables CD-quality audio to be delivered at distances up to 30 feet (or even 60 feet under certain conditions!)

Because of this, some high-end bluetooth models sound just as good as wired headphones costing a similar amount.

Fiddly controls?

This is not always the case however. Too many bluetooth models compromise on sound quality because they need all the other paraphernalia that comes along with the requirement to let the user make and receive calls via the headset.

Of course, these are necessary accoutrement if the headset is to be used with a phone, but it can be annoying to discover that all the money you have spent on your headset has gone to pay for little fiddly controls rather than audio quality!

Comfort

Another factor to take into consideration is the comfort of the headphones. If you are listening to music for long periods, you will want to ensure that the headphones are comfortable and don’t make your ears hurt! Again, you will probably need to pay a higher price for a headset that feels good and light on your head than one that feels like it’s got you in a headlock!

Using a Bluetooth Headset with your PC

Bluetooth

For those of you not familiar with the term, Bluetooth refers to a wireless protocol (or set of rules) designed for short range electronic applications (usually less than 30 feet in distance). Although the technology has been around for several years, Bluetooth support for PC users has been limited due to hardware manufacturers focusing on the more traditional 802.11 wireless network protocols (wifi). In reality, Bluetooth and wifi achieve different purposes and each has its pros and cons.

Cellular Telephone Bluetooth Headsets

The cellular telephone community has long embraced Bluetooth technology, developing and refining numerous wireless devices. One of the more popular Bluetooth applications for cellular telephones has been cordless headsets which enable users to leave their telephone in their bag or pocket while still being able to make and receive calls. Bluetooth headsets are generally very lightweight, worn over one ear and achieve talk times from 1-4 hours before needing a recharge.

Bluetooth PC Headset?

So if cellular telephone users have warmly embraced Bluetooth headsets, why not the PC community? At the time of writing, this author knows of no PC hardware manufacturer who has designed a Bluetooth Headset primarily for use with a PC. However, there is nothing to prevent a PC user from using a cellular phone Bluetooth Headset with their PC. Keep in mind though, these headsets were originally envisioned for cellular phone use and may need a bit of ‘tweaking’ before they’ll perform as well as ‘corded’ headsets on your computer.

USB Bluetooth Adapter

Unless you own a relatively expensive notebook PC, odds are that your computer doesn’t natively support the Bluetooth protocol. If this is the case, you’ll need an ‘Adapter’ or ‘Dongle’ in order to make your computer ‘Bluetooth enabled’. Bluetooth adapters are generally very small (a few inches long) and insert into a vacant USB port on your computer. When purchasing an adapter it’s critical that you buy one that supports the ‘headset protocol’. The headset protocol is merely a set of rules which enables your Bluetooth adapter to communicate with and make use of Bluetooth headsets in its vicinity. If your adapter does not support the headset protocol, no amount of ‘tweaking’ will get your headset working with your PC. Adapters generally run between $20 – $80 USD and can be purchased at most PC retailers.

Buying a Bluetooth Headset

Bluetooth headsets for cellular phones are generally very expensive when compared with conventional ‘corded’ PC headsets. Depending on where you buy your headset, you could spend anywhere from $20 to $200+ USD. If you’re looking for a relatively inexpensive headset that’ll simply enable you to make wireless VoIP calls using your PC, I recommend looking on Ebay. Although prices vary considerably on Ebay between merchants for similar products, overall they are considerably less expensive than purchasing the same headset from a telephone store. A word of caution about Ebay though; ensure that you read the fine print associated with shipping costs. Some Ebay merchants advertise Bluetooth Headsets for $5 USD however the real cost quickly rises to $35+ when you account for their often exorbitant shipping charges.

‘Pairing’ the Headset with your PC

Once your computer is ‘Bluetooth enabled’ and you’ve obtained a Bluetooth headset, you’ll need to ‘pair’ the headset with your computer in order to use it for VoIP applications. This is usually just a matter of setting your headset in ‘discovery mode’ and allowing your PC to ‘search’ or ‘discover’ Bluetooth devices. The steps needed to enable discovery mode on your headset and adapter will vary between devices and should be clearly explained in the documentation accompanying your devices.

Adjusting your Audio Settings

Depending on your hardware and operating system, you may need to make adjustments to your audio settings after the headset is ‘paired’ with your PC. In the Windows operating system, this will involve accessing ‘Audio Properties’ through the ‘Control Panel’ and setting the audio and voice devices to your newly paired Bluetooth headset. Again, adjusting these settings should be covered in the documentation accompanying both your headset and Bluetooth adapter.

Once you’re up and running, you’ll wonder why you didn’t adopt this wireless headset solution sooner. The freedom to wander away from your computer whilst maintaining voice over Internet conversations is something you’ll come to appreciate and love.

What Is Bluetooth? A Description Of Bluetooth Technology

Every day we are seeing more and more electronic gadgets that are advertised as being Bluetooth enabled. This may leave you feeling excited or it may leave you trying to figure out what all of the fuss is about. You may just want to know what is Bluetooth? You may just want a simple description of Bluetooth technology.

Bluetooth mobile wireless technology is fast becoming a leader when it comes to technologies that involve wireless communication. It is becoming all the rage all over the world because in the short time it has been around this technology has paved the way for computers, telephones and other electronic gadgets to be able to communicate with other devices that are within range. The current range for Bluetooth wireless technology networking is about thirty feet.

The Bluetooth wireless system provides a cheap and secure way to communicate with other devices. This is done without the need for any wires.

You may be wondering what is Bluetooth good for. This is now used in almost all of the newer cell phones and handheld PDAs. Some laptops and printers use this as well. This is just a small sampling of the type of devices you can purchase that uses this technology. Every day more and more products are being brought to market.

Wireless phones are probably the most widely Bluetooth enabled device, but new things are coming out every day. You can now find wireless speakers and headphones. The future should see many new Bluetooth gadgets come into the marketplace. It is possible that some day wireless will really mean just that. The only wire you will see is the one that plugs into the wall socket. People will look forward to the day when that tangled mess of wires is a thing of the past.

Some of the big advantages of Bluetooth technology are how fast the transfer of data is and how inexpensive the components really are. You also are able to transmit both data and voice at the same time. It has been around for a few years now. It is becoming more and more popular because it is used by many different manufactures, and the price is reasonable. You can expect to see a lot more Bluetooth enabled devices come out and hopefully the prices will become more reasonable as time goes by. It will not be long before it will be hard to find someone who will ask the question what is Bluetooth. Soon a description of Bluetooth technology will not be needed.
